The mangaka’s goal was to provide a team of superpowered heroes for girls to enjoy and idolize, similar to what boys had with the Power Rangers at the time. Naoko Takeuchi created the original manga, which was first published in Nakayoshi magazine. He had hoped to “socialize” with female students (no worries, his morals are good, and he would never take it too far), but he was instead tasked with handling the “problem class.” The misbehaving kids are determined to break him down, but they soon find out they have met their match in Onizuka and his unorthodox teaching methods. ![]() After graduating from the certification program, Onizuka landed his dream job as a high school teacher, determined to turn his life around. This high school comedy anime follows Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old ex-gangster who is tired of being an aimless punk. Tooru Fujisawa, the mangaka behind it, was not afraid to use his work to point out some of the flaws in the Japanese educational system. The shonen anime is an adaptation of the same-named manga, which was published in the Weekly Shonen Magazine between 19. What better way to kick off the list of the best 90s anime than with one of the best comedies in anime history, Great Teacher Onizuka?
